South London Catholic University Chaplaincy

Who Are We?

The Catholic University Chaplaincy in South London is an agency of the Archdiocese of Southwark.

The Chaplaincy Team is made up of:

Ms Joan Tierney
Chaplain to Guys, St Thomas’ and St Georges Medical Schools.

Joan is the Roman Catholic lay Chaplain for St. George’s.

She has worked in education and Pastoral Care for many years in different parts of the UK and Europe as well as in the USA. Her interests include music, walking, theatre and making new friends. She divides her time as Chaplain between St. George’s and the Guy’s site of King’s College.

Louise Walton

Chaplain to Greenwich University

(Maritime and Avery Hill Campuses)

Louise is the Roman Catholic Chaplain for Greenwich Maritime and Avery Hill campuses. She studied History and Ancient History, and then Mediterranean Studies at Exeter University, specialising in issues of religion, church and belief, and generally having a fantastic time. Whilst at Exeter she was very involved in the Catholic community, particularly the Catholic Society, and in the Methodist and Anglican community, serving as an assistant to the Anglican Chaplains for six months.
Leaving university in 2003, Louise became a Catholic Parliamentary Intern. This internship involved being sponsored by the RC Church to work with a Christian MP and various Catholic bodies at national level for one year. Firmly ecumenical in mind set, after this, Louise worked in the ecumenical department of the Church of England before taking up the post at Greenwich.
Louise thrives on food, films, books, comedy, and music in general. Whether listening, singing, playing the guitar or clarinet, she loves music of most types - even more so if she can join in with it somehow. She is approachable and always ready for a good conversation if offered. When she has time (which doesn’t happen often enough), she loves to go swimming, to travel or go walking either in London or outside.

Dominique and Marie-Christine Ferry, members of the Chemin Neuf Community
Chaplains to Goldsmiths College and South Bank University
From late September 2007 they are the Roman Catholic Chaplains. Dominique is a Deacon. Very involved in the work for Christian Unity, they have been trained in Bible studies, as well as in Spiritual Theology. They have also a long practice of spiritual accompaniment (or spiritual direction), in the daily life and for Ignatian or inner healing retreats.
Marie-Chritine has been involved in setting up Evangelisation Dramas for the World Youth Day in Paris and Rome.
Marie-Christine and Dominique are both available to listen to any one who would like to pop in and talk occasionally or regularly.
The Chemin Neuf Community will be part of the chaplaincy team. See their website
http://www.chemin-neuf.org/ and www.netforgod.org for further details of them.

You will see us in the different universities we are responsible for. If, however, you would like to phone or email us we would be delighted and will follow any contact up as soon as we possibly can.
